Angela Intercedes

It’s the kind of question people don’t ask – they’re afraid the answer could open a can of worms. But it’s on their minds: What is a prophetic intercessor?

A great book definition of it:

Prophetic Intercessor – seems to hear from God almost as much as they speak to God.  Exhortation, faith, wisdom, words of knowledge and discernment flow from the prophetic intercessor.

With those who are “eyes” and “ears” (prophetic intercessors), God often shares the secrets of His heart and the strategies of His work.  God reveals His plans to them.  At times He reveals the plans of the enemy, as well. (Jeremiah 33:3, 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21) – Beyond the Veil by Alice Smith

Your burning question may still be, “But what does a prophetic intercessor do beyond pray lots?”

Father has a job description to fit His unique and specific calling on the life of a prophetic intercessor. Yet there are also similarities amongst the differences. Below is what living out Father’s calling on my life looks like:

Ministry Leaders and Friends

Connect with and Encourage Ministry Leaders

Over the years, Father has had me encourage and connect with ministry leaders all over the world. Some connections become a long-term partnering, some are for just a season of ministry, and some are for the length of a phone or email conversation.Through these relationships and connections, Father has me live out the heart of Hebrews 10:24 to His Beloved shepherds and leaders.

And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

Onsite Intercession

Teach and Train

I teach about intercessory prayer and spiritual warfare at churches or small group gatherings.

I train short-term mission teams through a training called Luke 10 Training to prepare the teams to effectively intercede for the people and the country they are traveling to as well as how to knowledgeably battle the spiritual warfare they will face there.

Sometimes, I lead mission teams in intercessory prayer on-site on the mission trip.

ministry leaders of today and tomorrow

Come Alongside Churches, Ministries, and Individuals

. . . in dealing with long-term, ongoing, and debilitating spiritual warfare in their church body, ministry, or in their personal lives.

I have given you authority . . . to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

Long-term, ongoing, and debilitating spiritual warfare is an opportunity to join Father in believing His promise to us in Psalm 20:6-8 and countless other verses.

Precious Stones of IntercessionNow I know that the Lord saves his anointed; He answers him from his holy heaven with the saving power of His right hand. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.

They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

I detail more stories of churches, ministries, and individuals experiencing freedom from bondage and from long-term, ongoing, and debilitating spiritual warfare in my book Precious Stones of Intercession: Specific and Persistent Prayer on Behalf of Others.

Speak and Write

Angela Speaking

Our churches, ministries, families, and world are in desperate need for us as believers to daily walk in the power and authority we have been given and to actively and boldly fight against the spiritual warfare that attacks us on all fronts.

My mission in speaking and writing is to help build up the body with practical strategies to make the above a functional reality in their church, ministry, and family life.

Even I Have Asked the Question

As a prophetic intercessor, I have the honor and the privilege to intercede, and to strengthen, encourage and comfort the body of Christ through Father’s words (1 Cor 14:3).

It is a calling I never thought of having. It’s a calling I and others have questioned. It’s a calling that invites both the curiosity and critique of others. It is a calling I wouldn’t have chosen for myself.

And yet, in submitting to Father’s plan and living for an audience of One, I increasingly find that there is no greater honor and no greater privilege than to be who He has called you to be and to do what He has called you to do (Eph 2:10).

Hello. I agree with what you have revealed about prophetic intercessors. Do you believe God uses them to worship, dance, and sign, as well as pray prophetically?

    • says

Zainab, I agree that God uses prophetic intercessors in a variety of ways according to His plans and purposes (Eph. 2:10). I think the 24-7 prayer movement is a great example of providing believers with outlets for worship, dance, sign, and prophetic prayer. My post, Red Moon Rising: 24-7 Prayer Movement, details more about this –

I have been praying well seeking God for years on my calling. I was revealed by the holy spirit that I have been called to intercede. Not to be rude but as I keep trying to understand my calling. I have become fustrated. I have read articles such one as like yours. In the past I have read that prophets or prophetess do intercede for the church. I read in the bible some different books about Moses, Jonah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, etc. It like I am being lead in this direction but I don’t want the Lord to be upset with me for not answering my calling. I seek to be taught but in my search I have been called a false prophet. I dont have a clue why I just wanted to serve the Lord. I have never ask to take leadship role in this church. I was told by the pastor that I am a leader. I get upset sometimes because I am searching and searching for my mind is thinking Have I been call to intercede but chosen to be a prophetess. It bothers me so much that leaders of the church only give me bits and pieces of what they believe I

am but will not teach me. How to keep and walk in the authority that Jesus my Lord and Saviour has given me. What can I be possibility be doing wrong? I was at this early morning service today. Myself many others were up at the alter for prayer today. This precious little girl was being prayed over. The man that prayed over her spoke to her telling her that she has a prophetic anointing. She will have dreams and vision to not be afraid. He told her more but I just broke down in tears. The Lord was already there and the holyspirit was moving. It was beautiful but I was saying to myself inside. Lord how is it that no one will prophesy to me about the calling u design for me. I dont understand. I mean I been told about going to a new level and yes that I have been chosen. then I ask chosen to do what? First I was told that my calling is to serve the Lord with gladness. Ok??????????? Please pray for me that the Lord gives me clarity on my calling. The word says, “Many are called but few are chosen.”

Tanisha, thank you for your heartfelt sharing. I can identify with your frustrations. In your comment you wrote, “I was revealed by the Holy Spirit that I have been called to intercede.” I encourage you to walk boldly forward in your calling with His promise of Phil. 1:6, “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Be faithful in interceding for the people and situations the Holy Spirit lays on your heart. He is both your Guide and your teacher. I also encourage you to memorize and meditate on Gal. 1:10. You live for an audience of One; let Him be the One to affirm you in the gifting and calling He has given you as one of His intercessors.

A book that may be of encouragement to you is Adventures in the Prophetic –

My post today also may be of encouragement as well: Intercessors: Why Intercede?

You’ll also find great resources in my book review of Red Moon Rising for the 24/7 prayer movement –

I pray you rest and abide and allow Jesus, our Ultimate Intercessor (Heb. 7:25, Job 16:20-21), work in you to will and to act according to His good purpose (Phil. 2:13).

Take heart My sister, we are a part of a great community of intercessors worldwide who experience many of the frustrations and misunderstanding you are encountering.

This is great news for i have found where i belong in the Body of CHRIST.i lead 7 intercessors but my church leadership hates to hear from GOD but themselves.we’ve seen GODS’ POWER in our outdoor services but with litle resources.STAND WITH US

Prophetic Intercessor, It is a heavy call with time I have learned and found who I am, even as a little girl always wanted to pray and love to pray for people. As I was reading one of the letters I was just like her when looking for answers but no one would tell me but I remember the Holy spirit said to me I WILL TEACH YOU THE WAY YOU SHOULD GO. I HAVE TO LEARN THAT THE HOLY SPIRIT IS MY TEACHER AND NOT MAN. Man is here to encourage me of what my Father has told me. Thank you for reminding me of the CALL WALKING DAILY IN IT THAT IT IS A LIFE STYLE OF PRAYING. Amen

    Hi Angela
I am so glad that I came across your website. I believe I am a prophetic intercessor and God also uses me in the area of deliverance. Like you said it yourself, this is definately something that I wouldn’t choose to do but I do it to please my MASTER. I want my heart, my will and all I have to align with the WILL OF GOD. I realise that I am not of my own as I belong to JESUS, therefore I must do the will of my FATHER and nothing else. If anyone moves out of THE WILL of GOD then they are in the will of the devil.

I love intercession and I spend a lot of time worshiping my GOD.

    • says

May God bless and strengthen you as He continues to build you up in blessing others with this vital gift. I often am encouraged as I meditate on His strengthening promise in Habakkuk 3:19 (Amplified): The Lord God is my Strength, my personal bravery, and my invincible army; He makes my feet like hinds’ feet and will make me to walk [not to stand still in terror, but to walk] and make [spiritual] progress upon my high places [of trouble, suffering, or responsibility]!

  7. Rev. LaVerne DuPree says

I was so happy to run across this site. I now know I am a prophetic intercessor, called to prayer April of 2002. I am the ministry leader over the Hour of Power Prayer at my church. I am experiencing the power and anointing of God. He’s so awesome. I pray His word and stand on 1 John 5:14. I enter into spiritual warfare regularly, as like any good soldier I get wounded sometimes….but God said in His word that many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord shall deliver me from them all, and you choose to live godly for the Lord you will suffer persecutions…hallelujah…standing on His promises, and believing that all things are possible to them who believe.

    Hi Angela,

I have seen your links on FB for sometime but this one for some reason caught my attention. I have also been called to intercessory prayer many years ago. Whether it’s prophetic or not, I’m not sure. I identified with Tanisha Lee-Taylor’s post as I too have waited for a long time for someone to confirm my calling. Now that John & I stepped away from the traditional church setting as we believe Father has led is to do, I no longer have the desire to be validated by man. While my prayer life has not been consistent, I know Father is still working in my life and using various life situations to reveal more of who He is and even who He is not. I’m looking forward to reading more of your postings. Love to you & Mike.

  9. Anna says

    HI Angela,

I have just been reading submissions made on your website was I was trying to find out about intercessors. A man of God visited my office yesterday and asked me what I was doing about my ministry of intercession. It left me wondering because I am not a pastor nor in the prophetic and yet I know and hear when the Almighty is talking to me through His Word, dreams and visions. At times I have open visions. I am not sure whether I have a calling or its just the relationship that I have with the Almighty. No man of God has ever confirmed my calling. I have been in the presence of major prophets but none has confirmed my calling. Last week in church we had a prophet who was praying for all church members and giving prophecies to some. When my turn came to be prayed for he started laughing at me, he told me point blank that as for me he will not pray for me and that is exactly what he did. I do intercede when I am shown what to intercede for. From June 2013 I have been interceding for pastors and prophets as per the word given to me by God. In mid August, 2013 I was attending a revival in South Korea where I was shown a prophet making a move that was not ordained by God and I was asking God how this prophet could make such a move. When I started interceding for the prophet God spoke to me using His Word in Ezekiel 13. God bless. Ann

    • says

      Hi Ann,
Do not be swayed by the arrogance of man. May you be encouraged in the heart Father has given you for intercession by Isaiah 50:7, “But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame.”

A book that has been really helpful to me in understanding my calling as an intercessor is Beyond the Veil: Entering into Intimacy with God Through Prayer by Alice Smith:

As you continue to obey Father’s calling on your life to intercede, may you live for an audience of One (Galatians 1:10) – For am I now seeking the approval of man, or of God? Or am I trying to please man? If I were still trying to please man, I would not be a servant of Christ.

      Blessings, Angela

I also been having dreams scary dreams as well as heavenly dreams i had people say that i was an intercession i am not sure what my calling is but my goal is to understand his holy word and to be a doer and to obey what he is telling me to do. I am still learning his voice and i am trying tl understand the timing on things he has told me during prayer like fasting for so many days just keep me in your prayers that i may understand and have the boldness to do what he has giving to do

      Hi Skye,
Thank you for allowing God to work mightily through you! Two resources that may be helpful to you in your journey are a book and a conference: The Divinity Code to Understanding Your Dreams and Visions – If you’re able to make it, IHOP (International House of Prayer) in Kansas City, Missouri is holding a Prayer & Prophetic Conference October 10-12, 2013 –

I celebrate that your goal is to understand His holy word — what He calls and asks us to do will never contradict His word so we must study to show ourselves approved (2 Timothy 2:15). Another book that may be helpful to you in your journey is Growing In The Prophetic: A practical biblical guide to dreams, visions, and spiritual gifts by Mike Bickle (of KC IHOP) —

Angela i am not sure if this is my ministry. i am in a church that is bapti-costal and dont knoe if they recognize the ministry of prophetic intercessor, but i feel very strong about it . How do i go about ministering in this capacity in this church if this is my call?

    • says

Thank you for your comment! As you move forward, I encourage you to let Jesus teach you what is best for you and direct you in the way you should go (Isaiah 48:17) and not to rely on your own understanding in the process (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Let Jesus teach and instruct you in how He has gifted you and what He is calling you to do. You live for an audience of One (Galatians 1:10) and you are also called to minister under the leadership of the body He has put you in (Hebrews 13:17)

Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you. — Heb. 13:17

I thank The Lord all mighty for you, I have been called to the Prophetic Ministry and i never knew what it is all about, it is when other ministers came and told me that i am an intercessor, i started interceding a little and setback, then i had the dream of an aeroplane passing in the sky and i was hiding form it, this dream has been coming many times, a big one and i have heard people say am hiding for God, i recently felt some spiritual oppression and i started praying again, i just want to come out but don’t know how??

    • says

Thank you for your comment. I encourage you to hold onto the truth of 1 John 4:18, “There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

As you pray for wisdom and revelation about your repeating dream, here are some meanings for an aeroplane that may be helpful. If it was a large passenger plane, it may represent the Church or a big ministry (Ezekiel 11:1, Acts 11:26). If it was a fighter plane, it may represent spiritual warfare (Isaiah 31:5), an evangelist or evangelistic ministry (Acts 8:5-6, 12, 39), or a literal war plane (Habakkuk 1:8). These meanings are taken from The Divinity Code to Understanding Your Dreams and Visions by Adam Thompson and Adrian Beale:

I have always known I’ve had this special gift but was afraid to share. Most people don’t understand it. Many things are revealed to me through dreams occasionally or they are placed on my heart. It’s good to know there are others like me.praying that I can develop in this area and have more knowledge .
